Spring Hair Trim

Image
Getting your hair trimmed regularly is an important part of healthy hair growth. Regular trims get rid of split ends and single-strand knots that form at the ends. I personally prefer to trim my hair myself since I usually wear my hair in protective styles (twists). Two years ago, I discovered the Morrocco Method . It’s a haircare system that follows lunar cycles and seasons to achieve certain hair goals. At first, I trimmed my hair each season based on that season’s hair benefit— and it seemingly produced great results! Last year I started off trimming my hair every month (every lunar) cycle, but quickly realized that my hair wouldn’t grow if I trimmed it that often. This year, I’m back to trimming my hair every season. This year’s spring trim aligned with the thickening hair goal. The Morrocco Method also sells hair products that align with each goal, but I prefer to use products that I know my hair loves (my days of trying new products are temporarily over). The thickening ha...

Coffee of the Month- December

Image
December's coffee, of course, goes to Starbucks' Holiday blend! What else makes me think of the holidays? GINGERBREAD! Y'all, I was FINALLY able to get my hands on Coffee Mate's Frosted Gingerbread creamer. This blend is gives all the holiday vibes!

Coffee of the Month- November

Coffee of the Month- November It's finally starting to feel like fall where I live, and people are already going pumpkin spice crazy— but not me. I'm one of the few people who don't like pumpkin spice. Just mainly in coffee— pumpkin spice food flavors are okay. So this is why I opted NOT to get Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice coffee blend, but instead, their FALL BLEND. This blend still has spice notes perfect for fall, and I paired it with International Delight's CINNABON coffee creamer!

Coffee of the Month- October

Now this flavor has got to be my MOST favorite coffee flavor EVER. I LOVE HAZELNUT! Yes, I'll drink this year-round, but there's just something about having this on a crisp, autumn morning. As the young folks say, "it hit different" in the fall! 😆 Hazelnut is probably the first flavored coffee creamer I bought (either that or caramel), and this is my first time trying New England Coffee® (the brand and the flavor).

Coffee of the Month– September

Image
September's Coffee of the Month: Fall begins on September 23rd, so it's time to start getting into fall flavors! This month, I'm blending Starbucks' Caramel Coffee with International Delight's Caramel Macchiato coffee creamer!  This gives the perfect blend of caramel! Back when I first started drinking coffee during my senior year of high school (ELEVEN years ago!), caramel was my favorite! This just reminds me of cool, rainy fall mornings before heading off to school! 😎✌🏾 *Coffee of the Month is OFFICIALLY staying on this blog! Past Coffees of the Month can be found at my Wordpress blog!

My Heritage

Image
So back in June, I took 2 DNA tests (one from 23andMe, one from Ancestry.com) in hopes of FINALLY discovering my exact ethnicity. This is something I've been wanting to do for years! First, let me officially introduce myself. My name is Jessica Rivers. I'm African American, and I live in the Southeastern United States (Georgia, to be exact). Growing up, I was always told that I had Native American ancestry, due to the fact that I (and my mother & sister) had long hair. I was told that I had Catawba Indian ancestry on my maternal grandfather's side, and also some Native American ancestry on my paternal grandmother's side. And I believed it, especially after seeing a picture of my grandmother's aunt-- she looks like she's 100% Native American. I was also told that I had some European ancestry. My maternal grandmother told me that her dad was "raised by white folks" and my paternal grandmother says that her (paternal) grandfather "could...
